Steve: I’m not quite sure what article of Jeff’s you are referring to as I am not aware that Jeff Patton (Jeffrey Hunter Patton, Nanaimo, BC) published anything on the “Biblical Theology” site you mentioned. Nor do I find anything relating to Charles Stanley on our websites. However, If you are interested in what scripture teaches about Christ’s sacrifice on our behalf, and our relationship as servants of our saviour then you might consider viewing the following sermons that are archived on our website cogwebcast.com

I am a 54 year old man who was saved in Christ 6 just years ago. I live and work in TX with my wife and four children. We all six know Christ Jesus as Lord and Savior. I am reading your piece on Charles Stanley this morning. I found it on the web site titled “Biblical Theology”. One of the things that strikes me as I read is your emphasis on certain words. For example you seem to hate the word punishment to be used in any association with the death of Christ, favoring suffering. Actually, punishment is a narrower definition of suffering, as a suffering which exacts a payment. Also, the word payment seems to cause you angst. What exactly is a ransom then? What is a bond-servant? Do you believe that I have been purchased with the blood of Christ and that I am now His bond-servant? Anyway, I am on page ten and will read thru to the end. At this point in your essay I am wondering whether or not you believe that Jesus died for the forgiveness of my sins. I am wondering what you believe happened to Jesus for the three days between the cross and the resurrection. Most people who write and publish as much as you do are usually quite public. Do you mind if I ask who you are and what your credentials are…age, church, education, employment, kingdom ministry? I just like to know a little about a person who I learn from. Hi Jeff
When I saw that you had authored a book, I purchased a copy and read the first couple chapters this morning. So far I love the personal stories & humour … In some ways, it is the reflections & personal testimony of a husband, wife & family in their Christian walk — but in other ways it richly quotes wisdom & insights from both scripture and a varied number of others, who have discovered truths along the way. I am eager to read more of “The Straight Path”, and I see in this book many of today’s “Crooked paths” you are speaking out against (with this website & it’s view towards the World Tomorrow). Well done!
